Application
Epoxy resin coatings as primers have high adhesion and corrosion resistance. It is chosen as the main resin for cathodic electrophoretic coatings and can also be cationized in two ways.

Some epoxies (epoxy equivalent EN > 450) The epoxy group can be opened directly with secondary amine or ketoimide, and then neutralized to form cationic polymers

For epoxy resins with smaller epoxy equivalents, it is often necessary to expand the chain first to obtain modified epoxy resins with larger epoxy equivalents, and then amination
Acid neutralization results in the main resin of cathodic electrophoretic coating. Common ones are bisphenol A chain extension, polyamine chain extension and polyether (ester) diol chain extension.
After chain extension, the resin contains a certain amount of lateral hydroxyl group, so the flexibility and adhesion of the film can be improved.
